Hi there. I’m B.R. Shropshire, known in online circles as ElfGrove.
About The Site
ElfGrove.com is my personal website that I use to share and document my hobbies. Primarily, this means art, writing, and cosplay. None of this is anything that I am a professional at.
The blog portion of my website will be used to share costumes or art that I am currently working on, to discuss fandom etiquette, to review comic books and movies, and once in a very rare while, I might bring up politics or religion. That last bit isn’t very likely though since I generally don’t discuss those except in person with friends.
I am a 28-year-old Software Engineer living in San Diego, California. I work long hours, then come home and put even more hours into my hobbies. When I’m not running around the country with my friends, which is often part of my hobbies.
I’m actually a giant girly-girl under a huge heaping of tomboy exterior. I read lots of shoujo manga, love action flicks for being mindless action flicks, adore cute clothes that I rarely wear, watch SEC football, love sci-fi and fantasy, and have a penchant for sarcasm. I was raised in the deep South(USA), so if I drop the occasional colloquialism, I assure you, it’s quite genuine.
I’ve been watching sci-fi TV and movies and reading fantasy novels for as long as I can recall, and my first ever convention was actually a Star Trek convention in Huntsville, Alabama that I attended with my father while I was in middle school.
While I am most active as a Japanese anime and manga fan, I do also read US comic books, and you’ll probably see them reviewed on my blog every couple of weeks. I got into US comics via Poison Elves and several titles in the now-defunct Crossgen imprint. These days I’m a regular reader of random independent titles and DC Comics.
I’ve been a member of anime, manga, and comic books fandom for about 15 years now. During college, I was an officer of AUSAM (Auburn University Society of Anime & Manga) for 4 years. Two and a half of which I was the club president. In San Diego, I was Historian of the SDAnimanga.net club for about a year after first moving here. Due to various reasons, have been inactive in SDAnimanga for the past 3 years.
I have been regularly attending fan conventions since 2001 of various genres and sizes. I have been cosplaying since 2002. I have worked as a volunteer, panelist, and staffer over the years.
In 2010, I was a staffer and panelist for San Diego’s 1st ever anime convention, Anime Conji. I intend to do so again in 2011, so be sure to come out and join us.
